We filed this complaint to ensure that the rights of those detained were respected and to ensure that the Department of Treasury enables the delivery of the Economic Impact Payments to those imprisoned in Puerto Rico.

In October 2020, we sued the Department of Treasury of Puerto Rico, Hacienda, because they were illegally retaining the distribution of the Economic Impact Payments for those persons in jails and prisons in Puerto Rico. A Court Ordered Hacienda to submit an amendment to the distribution plan authorized by the Federal Department of Treasury to allow the incarcerated persons to receive the EIP funds.
